The Kailash Mansarovar Yoga Tour is a transformative journey to one of the most sacred and awe-inspiring destinations in the world — Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, located in the remote western region of Tibet. The holy Tibet Mount Kailash Mansarovar lies in the western Tibetan Plateau, the northernmost Himalayas region. Also referred to as Mount Meru and Kang Rinpoche, or snow jewel, Mount Kailash is a 6714m high peak. It has been one of the holiest places for most religions for thousands of years. The Buddhists, Hindus, Janis, and Bonpos love to visit here. In Kailash Mansarovar yatra, Hindus perform a ‘Parikrama’ or walk. It is around the 32-mile circumference of Mount Kailash. People believe that Lord Shiva dwelled in meditation on its top and visited here pilgrimage believe in wiping away all sins. According to Hindu legend, the lake was first created in Lord Brahma’s mind. Hence, in Sanskrit, it is Mansarovar, a combination of Manas (sense) and Sarovar (lake). Many pilgrims visit the place with devotion during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
Day 1: Arrive at Kathmandu Airport (1300 m)
Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, one of the team leaders will lead you and transfer you to the hotel. Dinner and briefing, introduction. Overnight at hotel.
-Day 2: Trip preparation day with half-day sightseeing of Kathmandu city
After breakfast, you will do a half-day sightseeing in Kathmandu, including Pashupatinath Temple and Buddhanath Stupa. After lunch, you will have time for final preparation for the Kailash pilgrimage tour. Check the equipment that will be used during the tour. If you need to buy a few things or rent something, the staff will assist you. In the evening, the Chinese visa and Tibet permit will be handed over, and they will brief you about the trip. Overnight at the hotel.
-Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Kerung (2700 m), 155 km, drive 8 hours
Today is the first day of your adventure and holy trip to Mt. Kailash. After an early breakfast at the hotel, you start the 8-hour journey to the Tibet border. You cross the Friendship Bridge and meet your Tibetan guide and drivers. After all the immigration and customs formalities at the Chinese checkpoint here, the journey continues to Kerung Village. You will spend the night at a basic guesthouse.
-Day 4: Rest day in Kerung for a proper acclimatization
Today is a rest day to have a proper acclimatization. Enjoy a leisurely walk, or you will be going for a short trek, which is in preparation for the Kailash trek. It will help you acclimatize fast. Overnight at the guest house.
-Day 5: Drive from Kerung to New Dongba (4600 m), 220 km, drive 6 hours
After breakfast at Kerung, then start the drive to New Dongba, passing through many beautiful but traditional villages and camps of yak herders. You can see snow-capped mountain peaks in the far south. But most of the time, you will be driving on plains, hence a comfortable drive. You will enjoy hot tea after arriving in New Dongba. Overnight at a guesthouse.
-Day 6: Drive from New Dongba to Mansarovar (4558 m), 280 km, drive 6 hours
After having an early breakfast, you will be ready for the longest driving day. Start an amazing drive to Mansarovar; en route, you would be able to enjoy the first view of Holy Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar. You drive further to holy Mansarovar (4550 m), the highest lake of fresh water with a turquoise complexion in the world, which is full of fish and swans. Holy Mt. Kailash, Mt. Gurula-Mandala, and Lake Rakshash are lying in its surroundings. Overnight at a guesthouse near Mansarovar Lake.
-Day 7: Drive from Mansarovar Lake to Darchen (4800 m), 40 km drive
After breakfast, explore the holy Mansarovar - the lake of compassion, tranquility, and bliss—and take in the real spiritual world. After the morning excursion, you will move towards the holy Mansarovar circuit by Land Cruiser with a packed lunch and continue driving towards Darchen. If time permits, you visit Chui Gompa. Darchen is considered a base camp for the Holy Kailash trek. During the auspicious pilgrimage time, this place will be flooded with pilgrims with hundreds of tents all around. Overnight at a guesthouse in Darchen.
-Day 8: Start Kailash trek, day one trek to Dirapuk (4920 m)
Drive to Tarbuche (trek starting point) and trek to Dirapuk, north of Kailash. Total hiking: 16 km (6 km driving and 10 km walking), 6-7 hours.
Your first day of trekking around Kailash begins at Tarbuche. As you make your way along the route, you pass numerous chortens (stupas) as well as the sky burial site of the 84 Mahasiddas. You will drive through the Yama Dwaar—the Gate of the God of Death—to start the trek (Kora). You will also take in wonderful views of cascading creeks, streaming waterfalls, and the mighty west face of Kailash.
You will pass the Chukku monastery and arrive at the Dirapuk monastery about six hours later, where you will stay in a mud house. Take a short hike to see the awe-inspiring north face of Kailash after some rest and snacks.
-Day 9: Kailash trek day two, trek to Zutul Puk (4850 m)
Total hiking: 22km, 8-9 hours.
The hardest day of the pilgrimage tour is also the holiest. You cross a rocky uphill dotted with stone cairns draped with the clothes left as offerings by pilgrims who have come before you. Further hiking ascents up to Dolma-La Pass (5700 m) and a beautiful natural sight of Gaurikunda.
After a short break at the top of the pass, you will head down the steep trail (two and a half hours) and walk on a flat river valley (two and a half hours) to your eventual campsite at Zutulpuk Monastery (4790 m), site of the cave of miracles where the greatest Tibetan yogi Milarepa meditated and developed the powers of flying. Along the way, you will be having wonderful sights of high peaks, streams, waterfalls, and mountain caves.
Day 10: Trek last day—trek to end of the valley and drive back to Paryang
Total hiking: 15 km (4-5 hours).
On the last day of the Kailash trek, a three-hour gentle downhill walk along the river brings you to where it emerges onto the Barkha plain. The jeeps will be waiting for you there. You will then drive to Mansarovar and fill up spiritually.
Later, the tour starts the journey back to Kathmandu following the same route, and the same system applies for all subjects of your accommodation and meal. Overnight stay at guesthouse in Paryang.
-Day 11: Drive back from Paryang to Kerung
On the way, you will see the beautiful Pigutso Lake. Enjoy a good view of the Himalayan range, including Shishapangma. Overnight at Guesthouse in Kerung.
Day 12: Drive back to Kathmandu (1300 m)
Drive to Kathmandu via Shabrubensi. Overnight at a hotel.
Day 13: Departure day
Breakfast and final departure.
